WeWriWa 06/03/18

With my new work schedule, I apparently remember to do blog stuff better.  Who knew?  Check out WeWriWa for other authors in the process of writing, and willing to share their snippets.  It’s a great place to find new books, and even chat with their creators.

Tau Scorpii A is a massive red giant star in a binary cluster with Tau Scorpii B, a yellow dwarf. The solar system is populated by more than thirty planets, at least one habitable. Called Sedna by the SolTerrans that live there, so named for a planet in their ancestral system.

When Taryn rescues another human from a marauding band of Caeruleum, she knows they won’t be happy their hunting party was interrupted. She also knows, the male human is as likely to be as angry and unforgiving as his former captors. On Sedna, the desert isn’t safe for aliens. The catch is, most species on the planet are alien, and fighting for survival.

Garrett is a warlord of a rival clan, and while they aren’t enemies, they aren’t allies either. That is, until they uncover a scheme that would destroy his home and make them all slaves to the merciless barbarians.

This week is an extension of the last two – 1st Tau Scorpii post & 2nd Tau Scorpii post – so you can catch up if you’d like.  Garrett and Taryn find themselves at the city, a place neither of them are certain they want to be.  Too bad they don’t have another choice.

This is the first draft, so place names will change, and other things as well.  FYI

Argent was a thousand hectares of shops and stalls, bath houses, gambling rooms, and every imaginable sort of entertainment, walled in, and supported by a carefully guarded water source. It was far from the largest sanctuary in the Near Desert, but it was certainly the best-supplied. The actual number of residents fluctuated, depending on the trade flow between territories. Asher kept the details to a select few, his senior warriors, and trusted advisers. Laws were sparse, retribution was harsh. They had built the oasis, and had no intention of losing it to marauders, or the desert.

“I thought you were friends with the local chieftain,” Garrett observed, being deposited on the far outskirts to walk the rest of the way into the city. It was slow going.

“He’s not exactly a chieftain, and we’re not exactly friends,” Taryn admitted.

“That would have been good information to have, when they picked us up.”

Yep, that’s 10.  Sorry/not sorry.  Next week, I’m not certain what Book In Progress you’ll get.  It’s hot enough here already, my brain is a bit melted.  Wishing for rain.  Enjoy your week!

If you want to read any of my available books, there are 3, and they’re all The Wildblood series.  It’s a pot-apocalyptic, action adventure that started out as a love story and has evolved into a story about growing up and how fast life can change.  Book 3 is also pending.

  1. Loved the description of the place – I can imagine a thousand stories taking place there for sure. And I can just guess how your character feels, finding out the true state of affairs just a wee bit late…great snippet!

  2. Great world building. The size of the Argent is amazing. (I can see many stories in that place.) I can understand his annoyance. He would’ve done the same.
