WeWriWa 09/30/18

Yikes!  It’s Saturday night.  An entire day got away from me.

Go check out the WeWriWa & Snippet Sunday pages.  There are snippets from a variety of genres, some great stories being shared.

The Wildblood Series

A Post-Apocalyptic Action Adventure

No one remembers what started the war, the big one. Civilization stopped, and what came next was fueled by rage and fear.

Twenty years on, a tiny refuge, a place called The Vista, may be one of the last vestiges of humanity. Isolated, guarded, and hiding a dark secret, the people have survived World War Last, and they are content with that. Their children, however, are not. The search for others will send them out into a world they know nothing about, where the line between enemy and ally is blurred.

This week, something a little different.  This is Shannon, talking to Green in a rare, quiet moment.  (PS – Green is Siksika, a Blackfoot, FYI.)  Bloodlines; Book 3 of The Wildblood.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Can I ask you something personal?  I know your brother is a shaman, but I remember your Sun Dance, too, you know spiritual things,” Shan said.

I have opinions, I know traditions.”

Do you think we have souls?”

“You mean the Altered?” Green was caught off-guard.  Of course you do, it doesn’t matter what has been done to your DNA, it has no effect on your soul, it can’t, those things have no connection. You’ve been listening to the old media feeds again, haven’t you?”

They wanted us destroyed, because we were soul-less deviants, created by science, they didn’t even consider us human.”

Don’t do that to yourself, Shan; you know better, I know better, if you had no soul, you wouldn’t worry about having no soul, because it wouldn’t matter. Understand?”

I really have hopes of wrapping this up in the next week.  You never know, it could happen.  I’d say I’m taking December off, but that’s a big, fat lie.  Too many projects waiting to have me type them out.

You know the drill.  Go buy a book, if you think you’d like it.  Thanks for stopping by.

Check out WeWriWa & Snippet Sunday.  You’ll find amazing authors sharing their writing lives with you.  Plus, books!  Books are always good.

Yep, another week has gone by.  The good news is – I got it.  I wrapped up all the hints and loose ends into the story arc.  I’m fairly pleased about it.  That’s a lie.  I’m thrilled, because this has been an ongoing project for 20 years.  The Wildblood may have another series, standalone books, I never know.  I don’t believe their stories are over.  For now, a few words from Bloodlines.

A nightmare, from Shannon’s perspective.  She’s in the hospital, recovering from her car wreck.  But, is it a nightmare, or something else?

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Fire in the Station was spreading upwards, glass breaking, smoke whipping in the air like there was a wind, but there wasn’t. She went back to the scene unfolding, knowing a group of Vistans were about to come out of the bank and confront the Scavengers en mass. Security had re-enacted the scenario with trainees, over the years, showing them how things could go wrong, and things could go right, in the middle of an attack.

I said, get away from the window,” Rafe growled, striding into the room. He grabbed her by the hair, dragging her back towards the blackness beyond the doorway.

It was like she was in water, moving in slow-motion, trying to fight back, to break away. He spun her around, hand on her throat.

A brilliant flash of light from outside drew their attention and he released his grip on her, the light growing until it blotted out everything else. They both stared, watching as it faded; Shan knew what it was, knew it was the warhead on Missouri Breaks. Then the people outside began screaming as the windows shattered inwards.

Gratuitous Promo Here!  Backlash is free for now, while I get this thing finished and figure out how I’m going to promote it.  Wish me luck.

PS – the free part at Amazon is only in the US.  If you’re somewhere else, you can find my email on my website, drop me a line and I can send the .MOBI file right to your Kindle.

Hey look, a constellation!  But which??  It goes to my website, of course.

WeWriWa 09/16/18

This is the last part of the conversation you all get to read.  Draft, may be edited later.  Shan & Hunter are having issues with Nomads, and their biggest problem is there are a lot of civilians around.  Catch last week.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Hunter felt the change, when she started the barrage, he felt it again as she took a cleansing breathe to make it stop, whatever ‘it’ actually was. He didn’t know why, if they were about to go to guns with nine Nomads.

Pick your poison,” she said, “Or maybe, ask the guy that runs this place if you can get a real f***ing job – I hear they need some muscle, to keep the riff-raff away.”

Are you calling me riff-raff?” Ryan asked, but the tension was out of his voice.

You were waving a shotgun at a bunch of old men, playing cards on the porch, no, nice people do shit like that, all the time.” She was sarcastic, but the fury, the anger, was gone.

It suddenly occurred to Hunter, he didn’t like this Nomad smiling at her.  “Are we shooting each other, or having supper?”

What’s for supper?” Ryan asked.

Rabbit stew or venison steak, I don’t know what side dishes we have because you damned raiders interrupted,” Harvey called out from the kitchen.

I think next week will be Tau Scorpii.  I think I’ll get one of these finished in time for Christmas.  Now, the promo.  Go get a book, if you’re so inclined.  I’ve made Backlash free (in the US on Amazon, at Kobo, B&N & iTunes), to get some promos for the series going.  Click on the pic!

  Another week, another 50 words.

Nah, I wrote more than that.  I hope to have the draft of Bloodlines finished next week by this time.  Tau Scorpii is on deck, and yes, there is another one waiting for attention.

Check out the WeWriWa blog and Snippet Sunday for more excerpts, from some amazing authors.  You won’t be disappointed.

This week, Shan & Hunter are out in the world, and they’ve run across some hostile Nomads.  Outside of The Vista, they are on the defensive, and there are civilians close by.  They want to control the situation before it gets out of hand, but you don’t always get what you want.

They attempt to reason with the intruders, first.  Things get a little intense.  See the previous post here.

“Well, the h*** you do,” Shan said quietly, enough that the men hanging back by the doors couldn’t hear her.

“Little girl, you have no idea,” Ryan sneered.

Hunter let her go; if they even breathed wrong, he was going to take it on himself, and start that shootout he’d promised to try and avoid.

“I’ve seen things, with my own eyes, that happened before I was born,” she said, leaning towards him, stoic. “I watched cities die, I’ve killed my own kind for thinking they could threaten me, Nomads that thought they outsmarted me, and I never thought twice about it. If you make us slaughter the entire bunch of you, I won’t remember your face tomorrow.”

Ryan blinked, thinking of something to say. He had crossed them, and he knew, if they were what they claimed, he was dead.

One tiny bit of advice,” she finished. “It’s not ‘mutant freak’, it’s ‘altered’.

Edited to make it PG, and to keep it at the 8 – 10.  I’m in the process of getting Backlash switched to free, so I can do some promoting.  Of course, Amazon isn’t cooperating.  You can check out my progress through my website, it’s just easier that way.

WeWriWa 09/02/18

I never get as much writing done as I want, but things are moving right along.  Bloodlines is up this week.  Being book 3 in the series, I know a lot of you are probably new to it.  I’m going to list some Character Profiles after the snippet, in case anyone is interested.

Also – check out WeWriWa, where I got the great idea to (attempt) to blog very week, and where a lot of amazing writers hang out.  Snippet Sunday, is another place a recommend.  You can never have too many favorite authors!

“You told him your name,” Shan said quietly.

“Yeah, I told him my name, so the hell what – Angelfire is five hundred miles away, and to you, it might as well be on the moon.”

“Never tell someone your name,” she offered cryptically.

“Is there a particular reason he keeps you close?” Ryan leered.

As tall as the Nomad, Shan tipped her head up and stared straight at him.

“Bodyguard, and you can take that any way you want, I’m still alive,” Hunter said.

  “For now.”

“The thing is, we just work for them, we aren’t from Angelfire, we don’t live there, we can’t, but they’re more than happy to pay us for our services.”  He let that sink in, to whatever ends they might assume.

Trying to make me think you’re one of the mutant freaks the rich folks use for their dirty work doesn’t scare me, I know them when I see them.”

 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

PS – never call an Altered a mutant freak.  They won’t take it well.  Tune in next week for the result of this conversation.
