Alrighty then!  I promised another batch of words from Tau Scorpii.  Hopefully, they’re in the right order to keep readers interested!  This is a bit further along in Garrett and Taryn’s day, traipsing across the desert.  Last week was the first post about them.

Garrett kept walking, and Taryn reluctantly joined him. “So, do you have family in Freeport?” he asked.  From the look on her face, he knew she thought about lying to him.

Not anymore,” she answered finally.

No one?” he persisted.

My brother, the adopted one, had a couple kids, out in one of the eastern provinces, but I never met them. He’s gone now, along with my father and natural brother.”

Garrett knew she wasn’t going to offer more detail, it was a defensive reflex, and she was afraid of him. “I have a couple sisters, out east too, families seem to stay in the east. Wanderers and warriors, we come here.”

Yeah.  I hope to have a real promo for it next week.  Yes, I said that last week.  Go check out The Wildblood series, if post-apocalyptic drama is your thing.

This week, a new project!  Tau Scorpii is in first draft, and I’m not certain if it’s a standalone or a series, novel or novella.  Or, whatever.  I like the story I’ve got.  We’ll see what happens during that second draft.  For now, a snippet.  But first – the WeWriWa blog.  A fantastic place to catch authors while they’re writing.  It’s a fascinating process.  Click the graphic!

Tau Scorpii A is a massive red giant star in a binary cluster with Tau Scorpii B, a yellow dwarf. The solar system is populated by more than thirty planets, at least one habitable. Called Sedna by the SolTerrans that live there, so named for a planet in their ancestral system.

When Taryn rescues another human from a marauding band of Caeruleum, she knows they won’t be happy their hunting party was interrupted. She also knows, the male human is as likely to be as angry and unforgiving as his former captors. On Sedna, the desert isn’t safe for aliens. The catch is, most species on the planet are alien, and fighting for survival.

Garrett is a warlord of a rival clan, and while they aren’t enemies, they aren’t allies either. That is, until they uncover a scheme that would destroy his home and make them all slaves to the merciless barbarians.

So, Tau Scorpii.  This is Taryn and Garrett, crossing the desert.  (Not the romantic couple that will happen, FYI.)  He’s hurt and she’s leery.  The oasis they’re travelling to isn’t particularly hospitable, but it’s their only choice.

Asher’s reputation crosses territories, and wealthy merchants will travel days out of their way to make a stop there.” Taryn combed her dark hair out as well as she could with her fingers, then tied it up, letting it flow down to her shoulders. “You’re injured, you get a break. I can’t go wandering in there looking like a grubber and expect to make a deal with him.”

Let’s go find this oasis,” Garrett said. “Spending a few days there doesn’t sound like such a waste of time, after months in the desert.”

I have to tell him you have warriors wandering nearby. We don’t want an incident between them and the sentries.”

Will there be trouble?” he wondered, carefully easing himself into the seat of the crawler, and waiting for her to join him.

There shouldn’t be, as long as your men don’t start a fight.  “They won’t start a fight, will they?”

Garrett chuckled at her.

This is a WIP, so just teasing you right now.  I expect it to move fairly fast.  I actually need to start thinking about a cover and something other than the working title.

Graphic is linked to my website.  You can find The Wildblood series there (all eBook formats and paperback available now), plus updates on other projects As Yet Unnamed!  Also, I need to update my website.  It would be so much easier if all I had to do was write.

Hope you have a wonderful week.

Ah!  I made it two weeks in a row.  I deserve cupcakes, or cookies.  Something.  Anyway, check out the WeWriWa blog for more authors offering snippets.

The Wildblood Series

Twenty years after civilization stopped, a tiny refuge, a place called The Vista, may be one of the last vestiges of humanity. Isolated, guarded, and hiding a dark secret, the people have survived World War Last, and they are content with that. Their children, however, are not. The search for others will send them out into a land they know nothing about, where the line between enemy and ally is blurred.

This week, members of Team Three have gotten over their initial anger at each other, and are ready to discuss future plans.  Naturally, things are complicated.  They want to protect The Vista.  Now, they aren’t certain if they can.  The newest danger they face is from their home, from people they’ve known all their lives.  Bloodlines: Book 3 of The Wildblood will be released later this year.

“At any given time, the lead dispatcher controls the station. Someone in this room has been a qualified dispatch officer for five years, and even was involved in a Blackout,” Wade said, having a point.

“You think I should move exclusively to Dispatch?” Shan asked.

“Too conspicuous. Keep doing Security runs, but start leaning towards preferring it, drop subtle hints.”

No one on Team Three understood subtle.

“You’ll be on the inside, watching them, watching us.”

  “Oh, joy,” she said flatly.

“It’s actually a good idea,” Mac offered.

This is the last book in the first story arc of the series.  There will be more, although I’m aiming for standalone novels.  I also have a new series (think Space Opera) that I hope to be debuting this autumn.   Promo stuff below.

First off, I’m baaaaaaaaaaaaack.  I hope to be here weekly, but it’s incredibly difficult to ration my time.  I can only try.

Go visit WeWriWa for sneak peeks from some amazing authors.

OK, there’s that.  I’ve pitched out the first draft of Bloodlines, calling redo.  This is a few lines.  Just when you think things are safe, stuff happens.  This is Shannon, one of the Genetically Enhanced, talking to another officer.  Green is her backup, and she confides in him, probably more than she should.  They know, the problems they are facing, started at home.  There are a lot of plotlines in play, in this tiny snippet.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Can we protect The Vista?” Green asked, honestly worried.

I don’t know.  That’s what we’re going to figure out. If we don’t think we can, we decide what comes next. It might mean we have to get away from here, it might mean we have to do things that Council will absolutely consider illegal, and Command might have to agree with.”

Those are a lot of ‘mights’. I hope the comm room isn’t bugged.”

It’s not. You know why I’m telling you.”

Because Hunter isn’t here, and Mac has changed.”

Ouch,” she grimaced.

I’m really aiming for an autumn release date.  At least I’m getting it written.  In the meantime, you can catch up on the series.  The Vista is on sale right now, FYI.   See you next week!
