Running late tonight!  Want to catch other authors in the process of creating a book?  Check out the WeWriWa page.  For even more – Snippet Sunday.  They’re both great places to find new books.

Great.  Bloodlines has grabbed my attention this week but I’m not ready to share quite yet.  It’s a train-wreck.  Thankfully, there’s this lovely thing called a second draft!  So, this week, an early scene from Tau Scorpii.  Taryn has recently met Garrett, and they are alone, in the desert, running from some nasty aliens, and he’s hurt.  They’re both leery of each other.  Things are a bit tense.  Also a WIP, with some funky punctuation for the blog.

Blurb – Tau Scorpii

When Taryn rescues another human from a marauding band of Caeruleum, she is reunited with clansmen long believed dead. It puts her at odds with their new chieftan, as well as her own partner, a powerful privateer. They discover, they have a more imminent problem, and must unite to survive.

The weather is changing. They’ll have to fight other species for control as migrations begin, food becomes scarce, and border wars erupt across the territories. Humans are no longer at the top of the food chain.

Tau Scorpii A, a massive red giant star in a binary cluster with Tau Scorpii B, a yellow dwarf. The solar system is populated by more than thirty planets, at least one habitable. Called Sedna by the SolTerrans that live there, named for a planet in their ancestral system. The desert is a dangerous place for alien species – and on Sedna, they’re all alien species.

“I can tell you some things that are true, that you might not want to hear. You said it yourself, the season is changing, and the Caeruleum know it too. You know what that means for us, and every species they cross. They use up a place, and move on, they follow the easiest food source, and it could be right to where you live.” He’d said the word – extinct. Garrett fidgeted, uncomfortable, sore, and uneasy.  “They’ve been on this world hundreds, maybe thousands of years. They could know the all about the weather change, and that’s even more bad news.”

We’re smarter than they are.”

We better be.”

Next weekend is Labor Day weekend here in the US.  I should have a snippet, but if not, everyone everywhere have a safe time.

The graphic takes you to my website, where you can find Backlash, The Vista, & Renegades, the books available in The Wildblood series.

  1. All very intriguing. I love the time span on the weather change and the way the aliens operate and plan. Nit: does the character actually utter the word ‘extinct’? Really was hooked by the snippet, which offers so many mysteries. Highly effective writing!

  2. Very atmospheric snippet, and it certainly seems like an almost impossible situation – I too wondered about the word ‘extinct’ though, I reread the snippet in case I’d missed it, but I didn’t see it.

  3. Smarter than they are? In what way? There’s a difference between “book smarts” and “street (planet?) smarts” and that could lead to overconfidence which could lead to a whole lot of trouble.
