WeWriWa 08/05/18

Another week, another blog post.  Someday, I hope to double that speed.  If you enjoy blogs & books, check out WeWriWa and Snippet Sunday.  My Kindle loves books, and I’ve found several through these places.

This week, I have to post a bit from Bloodlines: Book 3 of The Wildblood.  Writing 2 books at the same time is interesting, and luckily, they are nothing similar.  I have no idea who will win a blog spot next week, they are both demanding words be written.  So, here’s The Wildblood.

The Wildblood Series

A Post-Apocalyptic Action Adventure

No one remembers what started the war, the big one. Civilization stopped, and what came next was fueled by rage and fear.

Twenty years on, a tiny refuge, a place called The Vista, may be one of the last vestiges of humanity. Isolated, guarded, and hiding a dark secret, the people have survived World War Last, and they are content with that. Their children, however, are not. The search for others will send them out into a world they know nothing about, where the line between enemy and ally is blurred.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Shannon and Kyle are twins, a relationship that’s new to them.  They are cops, in this post-apocalyptic world, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.  They are trying to get back to a normal version of their lives, after a year of conflict and discovery.  Today, they are escorting trucks in from the city, with supplies.  Nothing is easy, not even a routine day job.

 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

“Kind of slick out on the pavement,” Shan commented.

He grunted a response, immersed in a book, an actual paper copy; they had buildings full of them, for posterity.

“Taylor,” she said.

“I know, it’s supposed to snow.”

“Kyle,” she barked, “Black ice.”

His gaze shot up, to the semi in front of them, “Slow down, then.”

“We’re already on it.”

“As long as he doesn’t hit his brakes,” he began, and the tail lights on the truck lit up, indicating that was exactly what was happening.

“Shit,” they both said.

 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Then things go ‘ouch!’.  More next week, probably.  Unless Tau Scorpii kicks into the way.

And now, some blurbs from the previous books.

Backlash, prequel to The Wildblood series. Set on a near-future Earth mostly devoid of humans, this reveals some of the harsh realities facing people of The Vista, and how Team Three began. When Security faces an unknown adversary that threatens to wreak havoc across what little civilization is left, they must rely on the unusual abilities of a new team, and hope it’s enough to stop the chaos.

 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

It’s not a dystopia, it’s not a utopia – it’s their home, and they’d do anything to protect it.

The Vista: Book 1 of The Wildblood introduces Team Three – they’re young, ambitious, and at the forefront of a movement to discover what is beyond The Vista. They also believe they are genetically enhanced, a practice outlawed long before they were born. Venturing beyond their valley draws the attention of someone dangerous, someone that shares their past and wants to control their future, or destroy them because of what they might be.

 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Uncontrollable. Unpredictable. Dangerous. The Wildblood. Now, Team Three know what they are

They made you strong, and smart. We kept you safe, and in the shadows.
It took them damned near twenty years to find you.

Renegades: Book 2 of The Wildblood takes up with Team Three out among clans of the Altered, and cities where civilization has held ground. Their efforts to establish The Vista’s domain create unique conflicts and forge unexpected allies. One of the most pressing obstacle turns out to be their own governing council, a threat as real and dangerous as the nomads of the outlands.

 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I don’t have an actual blurb.  Color me shocked!  Here’s some tidbits.

Bloodlines: Book 3 of The WIldblood – Team Three decide that their next best course of action is to go directly to the source of their conflict. Problem is, they don’t know how.

Then there is the fact, every Nomad along the Front Range is hunting Wade and Shan. Their own Council has gone into full rebellion against Security. Even close friends seem to be distancing themselves. The team is fraying at the edges.

Not so easily deterred, they set out on separate paths, looking for answers about their heritage, the war, and if they can truly protect The Vista. It may earn them exile from their home. They know this. Failure is not an option.

WeWriWa 6/17/18

It’s really nice to be writing again.  My typing hasn’t improved (in decades), but whatever.  Check out the WeWriWa blog for the place authors hang out and share snippets of their work.  It’s pretty awesome.  #SnippetSunday also!

The basics of the WIP.

Tau Scorpii A is a massive red giant star in a binary cluster with Tau Scorpii B, a yellow dwarf. The solar system is populated by more than thirty planets, at least one habitable. Called Sedna by the SolTerrans that live there, so named for a planet in their ancestral system.

When Taryn rescues another human from a marauding band of Caeruleum, she knows they won’t be happy their hunting party was interrupted. She also knows, the male human is as likely to be as angry and unforgiving as his former captors. On Sedna, the desert isn’t safe for aliens. The catch is, most species on the planet are alien, and fighting for survival.

Garrett is a warlord of a rival clan, and while they aren’t enemies, they aren’t allies either. That is, until they uncover a scheme that would destroy his home and make them all slaves to the merciless barbarians.

At this point, Taryn has discovered some of her clansmen had survived the war that destroyed her home, when she was a child.  Of course, this brings up more problems for everyone.

You can see other snippets from this here on my blog.

 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Skye? He’s here?” As Captain of the Guard, Taryn had believed he’d been one of the first to die in the fight, in the Far Desert.

He’s my warlord now, Lady Shaye Tammeron,” Garrett whispered near her ear. “We need to talk.”

Taryn’s eyes narrowed.  “We’ll talk after I see my men; they pledged their loyalty to me before they ever met you.”

You’re in hiding, because the raiders that killed your entire clan are still watching out for stragglers. I can imagine, you wouldn’t want to bring this issue in front of whatever judge they have here.”

You know I’m right.”

 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I’m getting there.  This is a SFR, heat level yet to be determined.

The Vista is on 99¢ sale at Amazon for the next couple weeks, just because.  If you’d like to get my newsletter, check here to sign up.  I don’t store or sell your info, I just send you a newsletter when I can.

I need to put a graphic of some sort here . . .

I like this one.  It may or may not be the cover, since it’s already in use by other authors.  We’ll see.  I should be back next week with something to entertain you.

#8Sunday 02/05/17 WeWriWa

Ha!  I made it.  My work week changed and it messed up my schedule.  But I have a few words.  Apparently, I’m going to write Books 3 & 4 of The Wildblood at the same time.   Should be interesting.

Check out the WeWriWa blog for a whole list of authors offering their tasty snippets.

This particular set of words are from Book 3.  Hopefully, titles will be happening soon, as well.  This is Wade, giving excuses why he’s about to disappear into the scenery.  Of course, he has ulterior motives.

 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Team Three is still a team, but I can’t stay here, now. It makes it easier for Altereds to find us. I’m not making it easy for them, ever again.” He spoke of the modified humans covertly created during the past century. The Altered had developed unusual talents, far beyond anything anticipated.  Before the war ended their civilization, the entities that made them attempted to correct the aberrations. Those attempts had been largely unsuccessful.

The simple fact was, Team Three were the Altered, too.

Hmmm, must promo while I’m here.  Renegades: Book 2 of The Wildblood needs some love.  Important things happening for my characters here.  Check it out in eBook formats and paperbacks at www.topaz08.com or the picture takes you right to Amazon.

#8Sunday WeWriWa 09/18/16!

Aha! I made it!  You know what to do – click the pic to find more blogs with teaser snippets!

This week I thought I’d take a peek at the actual romance part of the book.  It’s in there, I swear.  Not in a typical sense, but that’s the way it is.  This bit is a reunion of all three characters, and a little history.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Is that how you two met, with the caravans?” JT asked.

He hasn’t told you?”

Capt. Allen, you’re a mystery to me. I asked my brother how many women he was involved with and he said, just one, when she’s ready to be serious.”

Shan raised her eyebrows, savoring the beer, dark, rich, and cold. “Really – and you think he meant me?”

He has spoken your name; I recognize that look of someone infatuated.”

You were worried about me embellishing stories,” Hunter said, settling back.

Did you say that?” Shan asked.

Yes, I did,” Hunter drank too, thinking if there was going to be drunk confessions, he intended to fully participate.

Renegades: Book 2 of The Wildblood is in its final edits and I should have a release date next week at this time.  All my books are available in eBook format and paperback.  If you want to catch up on the series so far, Backlash is the prequel and The Vista: Book 1 of The Wildblood.

Follow the graphic to my website for links to everything that’s available.

WeWriWa 07/17/16

My 8 -10 from Renegades: Book 2 of The Wildblood.  Sometimes, you really can’t avoid trouble, as my MCs are about to find out.  They have to answer for their escapades of the past year.

Renegades will be available in Sept./Oct., 2016, so this is the last snippet of this book.  Book 3 is looming, plus an entirely new project.  More on that later.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Maybe it would be better to excuse the rest of the team,” Duncan suggested.

Exactly – we’re a team,” Shan protested. “We want to stay, we have a right to know what Command is doing.”

It wasn’t a request,” Duncan came right back.

I don’t care. This isn’t right.”

One minute,” Wade told them, grabbing her by the forearm and leading her to the back of the room. Mac stood there, coolly regarding the Command officers.

This is bullshit. It’s as much of an ambush as what happened at The Junction in July,” she whispered to him vehemently.

WeWriWa 06/12/16

My blog is still not working correctly, and it looks like that’s the way it’s going to be.

In the meantime, check out WeWriWa for blogs that don’t mess up, and contain some fun, wild, complicated, and amazing snippets from other writers that know what they’re doing!  Just click the picture.

And now a few words from me.  This is from Renegades: Book 2 of The Wildblood.  It’s a bit of a conversation my MCs have while they’re miles apart, angry at the world, and each other.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

“That’s not my point. I’m going to go find those places we only imagine exist.  I don’t have to have permission from anyone and neither do you. We’re not prisoners.  If you aren’t afraid of the Council, of Command, you should do the same thing,” Wade challenged.

I’ve got Cody to run, because you dropped that job on me when you left,” Mac disagreed. “Priorities.”

Damned right,” Shan said, adding her commentary.

I understand whatever decision you make; I’ve already made mine.” Wade got the last word in, as usual, their contact breaking into three distinct parts before it faded away.

 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Also, The Vista will be getting a new cover sometime this year.  While I love the art of the original, it’s been brought to my attention that a thumbnail version (which is what everyone sees) just isn’t working.  For now, a temporary cover.  The link goes to Amazon, but it’s available on all formats here.

Have a great week!

WeWriWa #8Sunday 05/22/16

Check out the blog, you won’t regret it. I’ve found some fabulous books there. A few lines from my WIP Renegades; Book 2 of The Wildblood. Release date not solid yet, but it’s looking like August. This year. 🙂

A less-serious conversation. It’s not all doom and gloom in the future!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

“What really happened in Colorado?” Lambert had read the official reports and knew they were at least fifty percent bullshit.

“He was Gen En, he’d watched us for years, or watched Wade and Shan. I’m apparently different enough to be invisible.”

“Rafe was watching?” Lambert confirmed.

“Yeah, him.”

“Maybe being invisible is your superpower.”

“Ouch,” Mac grimaced, deadpanning.

“Don’t take it personal.”

“Don’t repeat that to anyone, ever.”

The Vista: Book 1 of The Wildblood is available on all formats. Renegades will be available this autumn. You can find my books, in all formats now, on my website.

#8Sunday 05/01/16 WeWriWa

And that’s the blog you want to visit to find teasers of some amazing book from some amazing authors.  I have to play catch-up this week because I’ve been falling behind.  But, now a few words from my WIP Renegades: Book 2 of The Wildblood.  This is a continuation from last week.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Green was yelling at her, or something like it. His mouth was moving but there was no sound. She wondered disjointedly what had happened to his voice. He moved, getting to his knees, trying to get her moving.

Where’s Wade?” she shouted, the steady ringing in her ears making her own words sound distant.

He caught her face to get her attention and make her look at him. “Can you understand what I’m saying?” he asked, mouthing the words so she could read his lips.

Yes,” she nodding vigorously, making her vision spin, equilibrium gone.

The structure is unstable,” he pointed at the gaping hole over them. “We have to get out.”

 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Ha!  that’s all this week.  You can catch up on the story arc with The Vista: Book 1 of The Wildblood by following the promo link. Available on all formats.

#8Sunday 04/24/16

I’ve been sadly neglecting my blog this week.  Bad me.  To make up for it, some brand new words from the almost-book.  First, go check out the WeWriWa blog, because there’s an entire gang of amazing authors that hang out there.

And now, some words, arranged aesthetically to please me.  Hopefully some future readers, too.  This is from Renegades: Book 2 of The Wildblood, and Team Three, having a bit of a bad day.  Renegades will be released later this year.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Stopping, Shan asked, “What is that noise?” It was a high-pitched whine, and since Green was shaking his head, she understood he didn’t hear it. A moment later, there was loud popping sounds, nothing like gunfire. He grabbed her.

Then the world lit up as bright as the sun. Like an . . .

Explosion, Shan thought. She was suddenly on the ground, trying to cover her head, Green shielding her. There was blue sky where the roof had been, and heavy black smoke billowing up. It was odd, there was no noise with it. She thought there should be noise.

The Vista: Book 1 of The Wildblood is available now & I’d love it if you’d read it!

Road in the mountains at rain

WeWriWa #8Sunday 04/03/16

I got something accomplished this week! Before I share, take a look at the WeWriWa page and all the other amazing authors there.

Now then, this week’s words, from my newest venture, Hunter’s Moon. It’s the first novella in my Urban Mythos series. They are novella-sized stories that don’t necessarily have anything to do with others in the series, other than being urban myths.

Hunter’s Moon has vampires, shapeshifters, and erotica.  Not here, however.  The excerpt is rated for All Audiences.  This is part of a conversation between the human archaeologists Lyra Alexander and her brother,  Morgan, concerning her recent run-in with shapeshifters.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

“What does ‘Samael’ mean to you?” I hadn’t specifically put that in my written report and I sure as hell hadn’t told Jerry. I don’t know why, but it feels like one of those secrets.

Morgan half-heartedly shrugs. “A lot of ancient text consider ‘Samael’ to be the angelic name of Lucifer; others call him ‘the angel of death’.” He mulled on it a few moments, letting me lead him back to my cozy corner. I motion for another round of drinks. “Is that what your shapeshifter called himself?” he finally asks.

“Yea, it is.”

“He is neither,” Morgan tells me.

 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Hunter’s Moon will be available on April 28, 2016, and you can pre-order it at Amazon for 99¢ this month.
