Aha!  You caught me not be ready for a blogpost.  Shocking, isn’t it?   I should have a release date for Bloodlines next week at this time.  That’s about it, editing that & getting a few words down for Tau Scorpii.

Catch up with snippets by amazing authors willing to share them, at WeWriWa & Snippet Sunday.

Tau Scorpii

When Taryn rescues another human from a marauding band of Caeruleum, she is reunited with clansmen long believed dead. It puts her at odds with their new chieftan, as well as her own partner, a powerful privateer. They discover, they have a more imminent problem, and must unite to survive.

The weather is changing. They’ll have to fight other species for control as migrations begin, food becomes scarce, and border wars erupt across the territories. Humans are no longer at the top of the food chain.

Tau Scorpii A, a massive red giant star in a binary cluster with Tau Scorpii B, a yellow dwarf. The solar system is populated by more than thirty planets, at least one habitable. Called Sedna by the SolTerrans that live there, named for a planet in their ancestral system. The desert is a dangerous place for alien species – and on Sedna, they’re all alien species.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

A small band of curious humans have made their way into uncharted lands.  They avoid a confrontation with their foes, the race of Caerule, but the reasons are murky.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Something scared them,” Taryn pulled her garb tighter around her, feeling the wind shift again.

They were scared off by the dust storm, out in the High Desert,” Garrett said.

We need to ride on,” Aiden interrupted.

If something frightened the Caerule into running away, we should figure out what it was,” Skye argued.

Yeah, that’s what,” Aiden insisted, looking back the way they’d came from, at clouds, dark and rolling in fast, creating an ominous wall of dust that was on them before they could move.

Except it wasn’t dust. Only one of them knew what to think of it, as the storm engulfed them.

Rain,” Taryn said, turning her face upwards, as water fell from the sky.

Let’s see, I need an entertaining and fantastic snippet now . . .

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Our heroes are going out in the wilds, to see if there is anything to see.  Of course, it’s not that simple.  Sometimes, they don’t know who is the more dangerous enemy – the other species on Sedna, or the planet itself.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Fine,” Taryn announced, getting annoyed quickly. “Flatrock goes north over four hundred miles, and east, over a hundred and eighty, or so we’ve been told. No one from Freeport has gone across it since we’ve been a village, so maybe it goes on for a thousand miles, or ten thousand. Find your way back without me.” It was a challenge, not a threat, and they looked around for a few moments, pointing in different directions, Taryn shaking her head. “You’re both wrong, I told you, it’s easy to get lost up here.”

Is that how you ended up at Highmarch?” Garrett asked smugly.

Yes, it is, and I’ve ridden the paths here for years. It’s not exactly flat, but it has few landmarks.

Great,” Skye muttered, as the wind started again.

Ok, let’s do this all over again!  I’m writing a book.  Nifty, huh.  This one, The Myth of SolTerra, (possibly Tau Scorpii Book One) is a Sci-Fi Romance.  Please forgive my creative punctuation.  I’m keeping it to 10 sentences, and I won’t lie, this is a first draft and my punctuation is pretty questionable at this point anyway.

He circled the pair, taking into account everything, stopping in front of Taryn, “Have you changed your name again?”

Not yet,” she said quietly, “I might have to. There’s a migration happening.”

I am aware, no thanks to you.”

The Caerule are south of the Highmarch.”

Now that, I didn’t know,” he peered at her, expecting her to have more to say. “I leave for a few days break, and I come back to find you, moving mercenaries into the city.”

An enemy of an enemy.”

If you believe that makes him our friend, I’m sending you home to go back to school. I don’t want to bury what’s left of your family, stop being impulsive, you know where it leads.”

Bloodlines: Book 3 of The Wildblood is at the editor/beta readers, although I’m missing my actual editor now.  I’m not certain how this will effect my release date, but I promise to let you know when it’s happening.  If you’d like to catch up on the series, follow the graphic right to my website.  PS – yes, The Vista has a new cover.  Apparently, the previous one offended a big retailer who shall remain un-named.

Check out WeWriWa & Snippet Sunday.  You’ll find amazing authors sharing their writing lives with you.  Plus, books!  Books are always good.

Yep, another week has gone by.  The good news is – I got it.  I wrapped up all the hints and loose ends into the story arc.  I’m fairly pleased about it.  That’s a lie.  I’m thrilled, because this has been an ongoing project for 20 years.  The Wildblood may have another series, standalone books, I never know.  I don’t believe their stories are over.  For now, a few words from Bloodlines.

The Wildblood Series

A Post-Apocalyptic Action Adventure

No one remembers what started the war, the big one. Civilization stopped, and what came next was fueled by rage and fear.

Twenty years on, a tiny refuge, a place called The Vista, may be one of the last vestiges of humanity. Isolated, guarded, and hiding a dark secret, the people have survived World War Last, and they are content with that. Their children, however, are not. The search for others will send them out into a world they know nothing about, where the line between enemy and ally is blurred.

A nightmare, from Shannon’s perspective.  She’s in the hospital, recovering from her car wreck.  But, is it a nightmare, or something else?

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Fire in the Station was spreading upwards, glass breaking, smoke whipping in the air like there was a wind, but there wasn’t. She went back to the scene unfolding, knowing a group of Vistans were about to come out of the bank and confront the Scavengers en mass. Security had re-enacted the scenario with trainees, over the years, showing them how things could go wrong, and things could go right, in the middle of an attack.

I said, get away from the window,” Rafe growled, striding into the room. He grabbed her by the hair, dragging her back towards the blackness beyond the doorway.

It was like she was in water, moving in slow-motion, trying to fight back, to break away. He spun her around, hand on her throat.

A brilliant flash of light from outside drew their attention and he released his grip on her, the light growing until it blotted out everything else. They both stared, watching as it faded; Shan knew what it was, knew it was the warhead on Missouri Breaks. Then the people outside began screaming as the windows shattered inwards.

Gratuitous Promo Here!  Backlash is free for now, while I get this thing finished and figure out how I’m going to promote it.  Wish me luck.

PS – the free part at Amazon is only in the US.  If you’re somewhere else, you can find my email on my website, drop me a line and I can send the .MOBI file right to your Kindle.

This week, Shan & Hunter are out in the world, and they’ve run across some hostile Nomads.  Outside of The Vista, they are on the defensive, and there are civilians close by.  They want to control the situation before it gets out of hand, but you don’t always get what you want.

They attempt to reason with the intruders, first.  Things get a little intense.  See the previous post here.

 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

“Well, the h*** you do,” Shan said quietly, enough that the men hanging back by the doors couldn’t hear her.

“Little girl, you have no idea,” Ryan sneered.

Hunter let her go; if they even breathed wrong, he was going to take it on himself, and start that shootout he’d promised to try and avoid.

“I’ve seen things, with my own eyes, that happened before I was born,” she said, leaning towards him, stoic. “I watched cities die, I’ve killed my own kind for thinking they could threaten me, Nomads that thought they outsmarted me, and I never thought twice about it. If you make us slaughter the entire bunch of you, I won’t remember your face tomorrow.”

Ryan blinked, thinking of something to say. He had crossed them, and he knew, if they were what they claimed, he was dead.

One tiny bit of advice,” she finished. “It’s not ‘mutant freak’, it’s ‘altered’.

Edited to make it PG, and to keep it at the 8 – 10.  I’m in the process of getting Backlash switched to free, so I can do some promoting.  Of course, Amazon isn’t cooperating.  You can check out my progress through my website, it’s just easier that way.

I never get as much writing done as I want, but things are moving right along.  Bloodlines is up this week.  Being book 3 in the series, I know a lot of you are probably new to it.  I’m going to list some Character Profiles after the snippet, in case anyone is interested.

Also – check out WeWriWa, where I got the great idea to (attempt) to blog very week, and where a lot of amazing writers hang out.  Snippet Sunday, is another place a recommend.  You can never have too many favorite authors!

“Yeah, I told him my name, so the hell what – Angelfire is five hundred miles away, and to you, it might as well be on the moon.”

“Never tell someone your name,” she offered cryptically.

“Is there a particular reason he keeps you close?” Ryan leered.

As tall as the Nomad, Shan tipped her head up and stared straight at him.

“Bodyguard, and you can take that any way you want, I’m still alive,” Hunter said.

  “For now.”

“The thing is, we just work for them, we aren’t from Angelfire, we don’t live there, we can’t, but they’re more than happy to pay us for our services.”  He let that sink in, to whatever ends they might assume.

This week, I have to post a bit from Bloodlines: Book 3 of The Wildblood.  Writing 2 books at the same time is interesting, and luckily, they are nothing similar.  I have no idea who will win a blog spot next week, they are both demanding words be written.  So, here’s The Wildblood.

The search for others will send them out into a world they know nothing about, where the line between enemy and ally is blurred.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Shannon and Kyle are twins, a relationship that’s new to them.  They are cops, in this post-apocalyptic world, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.  They are trying to get back to a normal version of their lives, after a year of conflict and discovery.  Today, they are escorting trucks in from the city, with supplies.  Nothing is easy, not even a routine day job.

 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

“Kind of slick out on the pavement,” Shan commented.

He grunted a response, immersed in a book, an actual paper copy; they had buildings full of them, for posterity.

“Taylor,” she said.

“I know, it’s supposed to snow.”

“Kyle,” she barked, “Black ice.”

His gaze shot up, to the semi in front of them, “Slow down, then.”

“We’re already on it.”

“As long as he doesn’t hit his brakes,” he began, and the tail lights on the truck lit up, indicating that was exactly what was happening.

“Shit,” they both said.

 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Then things go ‘ouch!’.  More next week, probably.  Unless Tau Scorpii kicks into the way.

And now, some blurbs from the previous books.

Backlash, prequel to The Wildblood series. Set on a near-future Earth mostly devoid of humans, this reveals some of the harsh realities facing people of The Vista, and how Team Three began. When Security faces an unknown adversary that threatens to wreak havoc across what little civilization is left, they must rely on the unusual abilities of a new team, and hope it’s enough to stop the chaos.

It’s not a dystopia, it’s not a utopia – it’s their home, and they’d do anything to protect it.

The Vista: Book 1 of The Wildblood introduces Team Three – they’re young, ambitious, and at the forefront of a movement to discover what is beyond The Vista. They also believe they are genetically enhanced, a practice outlawed long before they were born. Venturing beyond their valley draws the attention of someone dangerous, someone that shares their past and wants to control their future, or destroy them because of what they might be.

Uncontrollable. Unpredictable. Dangerous. The Wildblood. Now, Team Three know what they are

They made you strong, and smart. We kept you safe, and in the shadows.
It took them damned near twenty years to find you.

Renegades: Book 2 of The Wildblood takes up with Team Three out among clans of the Altered, and cities where civilization has held ground. Their efforts to establish The Vista’s domain create unique conflicts and forge unexpected allies. One of the most pressing obstacle turns out to be their own governing council, a threat as real and dangerous as the nomads of the outlands.

I don’t have an actual blurb.  Color me shocked!  Here’s some tidbits.

Bloodlines: Book 3 of The WIldblood – Team Three decide that their next best course of action is to go directly to the source of their conflict. Problem is, they don’t know how.

Then there is the fact, every Nomad along the Front Range is hunting Wade and Shan. Their own Council has gone into full rebellion against Security. Even close friends seem to be distancing themselves. The team is fraying at the edges.

Not so easily deterred, they set out on separate paths, looking for answers about their heritage, the war, and if they can truly protect The Vista. It may earn them exile from their home. They know this. Failure is not an option.

I missed a week, sorry about that. Writing. You know how that goes.

This is a bit further into the book, where Team Three are meeting people they weren’t even certain were real. Urban legends make the rounds, even after WW3. You’ve heard that saying – Be careful what you wish for. Not a final draft, so subject to revisions. Or, the dreaded ‘Delete’ button, if it really annoys me. So far, so good.

Bloodlines: Book 3 of The Wildblood, autumn 2017!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

“Both of my biological parents were Altered,” Kaden told them what they suspected, what they couldn’t prove.

Shannon resisted the urge to look at Mac. He’d been right about offspring, and genetics, all along.

“And that is the single reason some Altered are called The Sixth, but where the name originated is anyone’s guess.” DeTessa gestured gracefully, and Shan wondered if anything she did was uncoordinated, or unsteady. “It eventually came to be associated with the clansmen that keep the status quo along the trade routes, the ones descended from Altered.”

“A Sixth would have Altered parents,” Wade repeated, for clarity.

“The majority of The Sixth, being children of Altered, were also Wildblood, one lending to the other,” DeTessa surmised for them.

Putting a hand up, Shan steadied herself on Kaden’s shoulder, closing her eyes for a moment. For clarity.

One of my characters, who isn’t quiet or shy by nature, has been being silent and sulking. No, not women problems. Problems about survival and other post-apocalyptic concerns. I finally weaseled 3 pages out of him. 3 whole pages!

Back to the action now. This is Wade and Shannon reuniting after some months apart. Bloodlines: Book 3 of The Wildblood, autumn 2017!

He’d known she was standing behind him before anyone looked up. Angry, certainly. Other than that, it remained to be seen.

Shannon kicked the back leg of his chair, forcing the front legs to the floor, making him sit up and pay attention.

“Where have you been, the past six months,” she glared at him, arms crossed. If he hadn’t shaved off his dark hair, leaving only a shadow, if he wasn’t hiding behind mirrored glasses, smoking a cigar, and drinking a tall glass of whiskey, she’d have found him faster. It was a holiday of some sort, and there was close to a hundred people crowded into the casino, at this ungodly hour. “Geoffrey,” she added. Wade – probably not the name he was using now.

“Geoffrey,” one of the card players snickered, cutting it off as she shot him a look.

This week, a bit of a conversation between Mac and Ballentyne, his 2nd in command, in Cody. Sometimes, we all need reminded, they survived WW3.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

“The purpose of Cody has always been to protect The Vista. I don’t see that changing, but we can grow here, we can be safe here, we can do this.”

“You had something cooking, when you petitioned Command to get separation from The Vista,” Ballentyne said. “I just didn’t know what.”

“That happened as soon as we got here.”

“Barely five months ago. How long have you known about The Sixth, really?”

“We’ve known for years, someone was watching us – maybe it was them, or Skolkovo. Maybe it’s a group we haven’t crossed paths with, because we’ve been blind until recently. There could be a million people, out in the east.”

“There’s not,” Ballentyne said after a moment.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Yep, things are about to get interesting for them. With a little luck and some uninterrupted writing time (HA!), this will be off for its first edit in 4 weeks. Wish me luck. I’m sure I’ll have a big promo thing going, too. Check back soon for details.
