I’m still here!  I’m not alone either.  You can check out other authors will to share their snippets at WeWriWa & Snippet Sunday.

In Real World News – Did you catch that amazing first photo of an actual Black Hole?  I won’t post it because I’m not certain about NASA & copyright infringement, but a search on the interweb will get you a million places to see the same picture.  The Falcon 9 launch Thursday (Apr 11) was also a sight to see.  All three booster rockets returned in a perfect sequence.  It was beautiful.  I love live tv feeds.

Meanwhile, in the world of Tau Scorpii, my intrepid characters are making progress of their own.  They’ve put aside their problems and ventured from the Near Desert to . . .  well, the uncharted desert.  It’s progress, I swear.  They aren’t trying to kill each other, right now, either.  I told you, progress.

Except I never make things easy on my characters.  Big things are about to happen, but they have time for a break in their routine, a little relaxation, a little fun.

Tau Scorpii

When Taryn rescues another human from a marauding band of Caeruleum, she is reunited with clansmen long believed dead. It puts her at odds with their new chieftan, as well as her own partner, a powerful privateer. They discover, they have a more imminent problem, and must unite to survive.

The weather is changing. They’ll have to fight other species for control as migrations begin, food becomes scarce, and border wars erupt across the territories. Humans are no longer at the top of the food chain.

Tau Scorpii A, a massive red giant star in a binary cluster with Tau Scorpii B, a yellow dwarf. The solar system is populated by more than thirty planets, at least one habitable. Called Sedna by the SolTerrans that live there, named for a planet in their ancestral system. The desert is a dangerous place for alien species – and on Sedna, they’re all alien species.

“If the time comes when there is trouble out here, you should know, Skye will try to protect you; personally, I think he’s crazy, but he will try,” Garrett told her.

“Would it do any good for me to talk to him?” Taryn wondered.

He chuckled, “No, like I said, he’s not big on talking.”

“What can I do?”

“Be careful.”

“I thought I’d race across the desert, waving a Tycho Alles banner, shouting my name, just to see if anyone noticed.”

“Naked,” Garrett said, “to be sure.”

Taryn blinked, speechless, usually having the upper hand, when dealing with warriors.

“That would make things more interesting, and I have a plan, to make things more interesting.”

“I’m not driving naked, anywhere,” Taryn pointed out quickly, getting a raucous laugh from him; she wasn’t amused.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I apologize for the interesting punctuation there.  My release date timetable is still a mystery.  I will hopefully have a better idea what my plans are for the next few month, by the first week of May.  It’s a bit scary, moving now.  Its been 15 years since the last one.  I’m sure I have a lot of stuff to throw out, and I’m just as sure, this is going to kick me hard.  It will be a good thing, tho.  The countdown is on.

Bloodlines is on 99c sale for a few weeks.  It’s third 3rd and final installation in this story arc of The Wildblood.  Yes, that means there will be more, standalone novels if I have my way with these characters.  You can find all the current books on my website.

All my MCs are gathered, talking about why they shouldn’t go out into the desert.  Asher tells them why they should.  Please keep in mind, this is a first draft.  I’ll make it pretty & shiny, later on.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Our city wasn’t the first one there. There were others, ancient ones, alien ones. There is the chance, whoever they were knew many things about Sedna, about the way the seasons change,” Asher revealed.  “The adults even considered, that they were native to the planet, and it was dying. They brought other species here to reseed it. Pure speculation, but if there’s a chance, we need to know. If the desert becomes an ocean, a real ocean, we have to deal with it while we still can. That means I have a city to move, through hostile places.”

All while avoiding the Caerule,” Garrett said.

And a dozen other vicious species that would hunt us to extinction, if we were that vulnerable,” Taryn added.

This is a bit later on during the conversation I posted last week.  Taryn doesn’t have to get the last word in, but she certainly has some words.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I’m not stupid, of course I don’t want to be in charge,” Taryn said. “You both have years more experience, in the desert, in wars, in dealing with other clans. I’m going because I’m the fresh eyes and ideas you need, to figure out all the new things happening here. If you want my opinion, I’ll be out watching the star-rise; let me know what you decide to do.” With a cocky nod of her head, she strode out of the library.

She just called us old,” Garrett said after a few moments. “But she does have a point.”

Always,” Asher said. “You need to take her south, you need to listen to her. To clarify, do not let her provoke you into something you know you shouldn’t be doing – remind her how old and wise you are.”

 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

My move is getting closer, maybe as soon as 4 weeks.  Maybe not.  For now, I’m doing promos for Bloodlines, and The Wildblood series.  If you’re interested in the post-apocalyptic type,  this story arc is complete.  I’m pretty excited about it.

I’ll start in on Tau Scorpii promos as soon as my plans are a little more set, and I get a better idea when a release date is.

WeWriWa 02/24/19

Another week, seeing some progress this time.  I’m certain the other authors you can catch snippets from at WeWriWa & Snippet Sunday are posting some fantastic sneak peeks at their work – go check it out!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Let’s rejoin Taryn, Garrett & Asher as they discuss the finer points of venturing out into the desert.  Each has a different motive, and is aware it’s not a secret.  Finding that middle ground to stand on isn’t a simple thing to accomplish.  The bad news – this is the easy part.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I’m standing right here, and if you can’t discuss this with me, now, I’m not going to venture out into the desert, to be ignored.  Is it because I’m female, or because I’m clan Tycho Alles?” She had her hands on her hips, to the amusement of both men, even if neither would admit to it.

Asher waited a moment, then added, “Two of his warlords are Tycho Alles.”

I know,” she snapped at him.

Asher shrugged, leaving Garrett on his own.

Garrett considered it, being out in the Far Desert with her, and a rowdy band of warriors; some would be Asher’s men, others were his. She’d be in no danger from any of them, due in part to the fact Skye would kill anyone that looked sideways at her, clan affiliations or not. He suspected she could handle most situations, even without Skye, and their dual run-ins with the Caerule enforced that thought.

Because you’re female,” he told her.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Well, then.  Garrett certainly knows how to get on her good side.  Since this is a love story folded into a sci-fi, next week might be some mushy stuff, but that’s been my plan all along!

The Wildblood series – or at least this story arc – is finally complete.  Naturally, I’ll be releasing a box set this summer, after I get moved.  (No one mentioned how difficult it is to find the house you really want!)  All three novels and the novella are available in eBook and paperback.  If you’d like to join my newsletter, I will be having a contest for signed books, after The Move.  Follow the graphic to my site.

OK, some Tau Scorpii coming up.  I have’t got much new stuff, as Real Life is being cranky at me right now.  Next week might be more stable, but I’m not holding my breath.  I will be moving, sometime soon.  Well, this year.  Find a house out here in the middle of nowhere, I dare ya!

Anyway.  Words.

Taryn, Garrett, and Asher are discussing the finer points of their current dilemma, that the season is changing.  Asher’s knowledge could save them.  It might also tear the remaining clans apart.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

As a species, we are under the impression, all the human cities here arrived at the same time, and are from the same era. Both of those ideas are wrong. The first cities from SolTerra did appear about a hundred years ago, but others were far later. I was six or seven, when it happened, less than thirty years ago,” Asher said.

You said something once, about how odd it was still, seeing two stars in the sky, and I didn’t catch what you meant by it,” Taryn recalled. “All this time, telling me the stories we’d heard were just that – stories. Denying SolTerra was even real.”

The memories of a mere child would be more valuable than water.  There would be hoards of warriors heading out across the southern desert, thinking they could find these cities, or my clan.”

 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Hopefully, I’ll get some words done this week.  It’s all plotted out in my brain, I just need to type it out & add the juicy details.

Also, I’m thinking of doing a box set of The Wildblood a bit later in the year.  There will be bonus content.  Details later.  Follow the graphics link to my site, if you’re interested in any of the series.  Thanks for reading.

So, Bloodlines has been out 3 days now, and has special pricing until the 24th.  While it is the final book in this particular story arc, it’s not likely the last book in The Wildblood world.  For now, Tau Scorpii is up next, and that’s my snippet.

Taryn and her band of merry adventurers have returned to Argent.  Things on their desert world have changed far more quickly than they expected, and she goes where she feels safe, and confides in the one person she knows has answers – Asher.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Rain,” Asher repeated, stopping. “You always believed the stories, even after all the times I told you the tales of Earth mean nothing here.”

It rained on us, all of us, up on Flatrock, less than half a day ago. Right after a band of Caerule tried to talk to us,” Taryn told him quietly.

Asher nodded, “I know.”

About the rain, or the Caerule?” She was grimy, hungry, and exhausted, even more so than her last venture to the city. If he was angry with her, it didn’t show.

Both. Get your men, we’re going to the Keep.”

Yep, that’s it this week.  I’m just getting back into the habit of writing, after taking the week off for the release of Bloodlines.  PS – there is a promo right under this line!

A small band of curious humans have made their way into uncharted lands.  They avoid a confrontation with their foes, the race of Caerule, but the reasons are murky.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Something scared them,” Taryn pulled her garb tighter around her, feeling the wind shift again.

They were scared off by the dust storm, out in the High Desert,” Garrett said.

We need to ride on,” Aiden interrupted.

If something frightened the Caerule into running away, we should figure out what it was,” Skye argued.

Yeah, that’s what,” Aiden insisted, looking back the way they’d came from, at clouds, dark and rolling in fast, creating an ominous wall of dust that was on them before they could move.

Except it wasn’t dust. Only one of them knew what to think of it, as the storm engulfed them.

Rain,” Taryn said, turning her face upwards, as water fell from the sky.

WeWriWa and Snippet Sunday – check them out if you like books.  You won’t be sorry.

wewriwa

Holy cow, Batman, did that week fly by.  The bad news is – there are parts of Tau Scorpii I won’t share on the blog, and that’s where I am right now.  The good news – it’s moving right along.  So, this week is a snippet from Bloodlines, currently out with an editor.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The Wildblood – No one remembers what started the war, the big one. Civilization stopped, and what came next was fueled by rage and fear.

Twenty years on, a tiny refuge, a place called The Vista, may be one of the last vestiges of humanity. Isolated, guarded, and hiding a dark secret, the people have survived World War Last, and they are content with that. Their children, however, are not. The search for others will send them out into a world they know nothing about, where the line between enemy and ally is blurred.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

This is Hunter and Shannon, having a conversation.  All hell is about to break loose.  He’s always suspected the secrets of Team Three and the Altered were darker than anyone cared to admit.  The team has gotten themselves exiled from The Vista because of their refusal to cooperate with Council.  Things are about to get even more complicated than they were.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Everyone has goals, it’s not a bad thing,” Hunter said.

I agree, as long as the Altered status in The Vista isn’t at risk.”

Do you think it is?”

You saw how Council was. I wanted to tell them, but I won’t, I can’t. They need to go on thinking . . .” Shan trailed off, never having said it, to anyone.

“Thinking what, tell them what?” Hunter asked.

She shook her head.

You said that you wished everyone knew they were like you – is it true?”

Torn, Shan didn’t want to answer, knowing he wouldn’t give up without one. “Not in the way you think.”

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Yikes!  I really hope I wrap this up as well as I want.  Its been interesting.  I can’t swear I won’t wander back to this world at some point.  For now, Tau Scorpii is next.  Then, who knows?  Gratuitous promo next.  The books are mostly on sale for now.  They won’t be, when I release Bloodlines, FYI.

Weekend Writing Warriors gives authors the opportunity to share snippets of their work.  So does Snippet Sunday.  Check them out!

This week, new words from Tau Scorpii.  Taryn and Asher are discussing the possibility, that things they cannot control, are happening.  They are both warriors, and facing something like the changing of a season – something that hasn’t happened in their lifetime – is a cause for concern.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

“You built Argent in a good place, up-slope on a plateau, so any rain should run off, like it does in the terraced fields. I know you’ve fended off wandering bands of Caerule. How prepared are you, if there is a large force of them?” She knew he was a deadly foe, that he carried a wickedly sharp sword, hidden in his garb, and he fought dirty.

We could hold the city, we’re well-supplied, and water isn’t a problem, even now. Are they migrating?”

Not yet, but would they band together, to attack you?”

He considered it, a worry line creasing his forehead, “That’s not how they work.”

What if it was? What if the season really is changing, and it makes all of us have to change with it?”

Ok, let’s do this all over again!  I’m writing a book.  Nifty, huh.  This one, The Myth of SolTerra, (possibly Tau Scorpii Book One) is a Sci-Fi Romance.  Please forgive my creative punctuation.  I’m keeping it to 10 sentences, and I won’t lie, this is a first draft and my punctuation is pretty questionable at this point anyway.

He circled the pair, taking into account everything, stopping in front of Taryn, “Have you changed your name again?”

Not yet,” she said quietly, “I might have to. There’s a migration happening.”

I am aware, no thanks to you.”

The Caerule are south of the Highmarch.”

Now that, I didn’t know,” he peered at her, expecting her to have more to say. “I leave for a few days break, and I come back to find you, moving mercenaries into the city.”

An enemy of an enemy.”
