WeWriWa 11/11/18

At least WeWriWa keeps me writing – even if it’s only 10 sentences a week!  That’s a joke.  Want to catch more snippets?  Check out the WeWriWa page, there are some awesome authors hanging out there.  Sunday Snippet too!

Ok, let’s do this all over again!  I’m writing a book.  Nifty, huh.  This one, The Myth of SolTerra, (possibly Tau Scorpii Book One) is a Sci-Fi Romance.  Please forgive my creative punctuation.  I’m keeping it to 10 sentences, and I won’t lie, this is a first draft and my punctuation is pretty questionable at this point anyway.

Blurb – Tau Scorpii

When Taryn rescues another human from a marauding band of Caeruleum, she is reunited with clansmen long believed dead. It puts her at odds with their new chieftan, as well as her own partner, a powerful privateer. They discover, they have a more imminent problem, and must unite to survive.

The weather is changing. They’ll have to fight other species for control as migrations begin, food becomes scarce, and border wars erupt across the territories. Humans are no longer at the top of the food chain.

Tau Scorpii A, a massive red giant star in a binary cluster with Tau Scorpii B, a yellow dwarf. The solar system is populated by more than thirty planets, at least one habitable. Called Sedna by the SolTerrans that live there, named for a planet in their ancestral system. The desert is a dangerous place for alien species – and on Sedna, they’re all alien species.

He circled the pair, taking into account everything, stopping in front of Taryn, “Have you changed your name again?”

Not yet,” she said quietly, “I might have to. There’s a migration happening.”

I am aware, no thanks to you.”

The Caerule are south of the Highmarch.”

Now that, I didn’t know,” he peered at her, expecting her to have more to say. “I leave for a few days break, and I come back to find you, moving mercenaries into the city.”

An enemy of an enemy.”

If you believe that makes him our friend, I’m sending you home to go back to school. I don’t want to bury what’s left of your family, stop being impulsive, you know where it leads.”

Bloodlines: Book 3 of The Wildblood is at the editor/beta readers, although I’m missing my actual editor now.  I’m not certain how this will effect my release date, but I promise to let you know when it’s happening.  If you’d like to catch up on the series, follow the graphic right to my website.  PS – yes, The Vista has a new cover.  Apparently, the previous one offended a big retailer who shall remain un-named.

WeWriWa 08/05/18

Another week, another blog post.  Someday, I hope to double that speed.  If you enjoy blogs & books, check out WeWriWa and Snippet Sunday.  My Kindle loves books, and I’ve found several through these places.

This week, I have to post a bit from Bloodlines: Book 3 of The Wildblood.  Writing 2 books at the same time is interesting, and luckily, they are nothing similar.  I have no idea who will win a blog spot next week, they are both demanding words be written.  So, here’s The Wildblood.

The Wildblood Series

A Post-Apocalyptic Action Adventure

No one remembers what started the war, the big one. Civilization stopped, and what came next was fueled by rage and fear.

Twenty years on, a tiny refuge, a place called The Vista, may be one of the last vestiges of humanity. Isolated, guarded, and hiding a dark secret, the people have survived World War Last, and they are content with that. Their children, however, are not. The search for others will send them out into a world they know nothing about, where the line between enemy and ally is blurred.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Shannon and Kyle are twins, a relationship that’s new to them.  They are cops, in this post-apocalyptic world, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.  They are trying to get back to a normal version of their lives, after a year of conflict and discovery.  Today, they are escorting trucks in from the city, with supplies.  Nothing is easy, not even a routine day job.

 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

“Kind of slick out on the pavement,” Shan commented.

He grunted a response, immersed in a book, an actual paper copy; they had buildings full of them, for posterity.

“Taylor,” she said.

“I know, it’s supposed to snow.”

“Kyle,” she barked, “Black ice.”

His gaze shot up, to the semi in front of them, “Slow down, then.”

“We’re already on it.”

“As long as he doesn’t hit his brakes,” he began, and the tail lights on the truck lit up, indicating that was exactly what was happening.

“Shit,” they both said.

Then things go ‘ouch!’.  More next week, probably.  Unless Tau Scorpii kicks into the way.

And now, some blurbs from the previous books.

Backlash, prequel to The Wildblood series. Set on a near-future Earth mostly devoid of humans, this reveals some of the harsh realities facing people of The Vista, and how Team Three began. When Security faces an unknown adversary that threatens to wreak havoc across what little civilization is left, they must rely on the unusual abilities of a new team, and hope it’s enough to stop the chaos.

It’s not a dystopia, it’s not a utopia – it’s their home, and they’d do anything to protect it.

The Vista: Book 1 of The Wildblood introduces Team Three – they’re young, ambitious, and at the forefront of a movement to discover what is beyond The Vista. They also believe they are genetically enhanced, a practice outlawed long before they were born. Venturing beyond their valley draws the attention of someone dangerous, someone that shares their past and wants to control their future, or destroy them because of what they might be.

Uncontrollable. Unpredictable. Dangerous. The Wildblood. Now, Team Three know what they are

They made you strong, and smart. We kept you safe, and in the shadows.
It took them damned near twenty years to find you.

Renegades: Book 2 of The Wildblood takes up with Team Three out among clans of the Altered, and cities where civilization has held ground. Their efforts to establish The Vista’s domain create unique conflicts and forge unexpected allies. One of the most pressing obstacle turns out to be their own governing council, a threat as real and dangerous as the nomads of the outlands.

I don’t have an actual blurb.  Color me shocked!  Here’s some tidbits.

Bloodlines: Book 3 of The WIldblood – Team Three decide that their next best course of action is to go directly to the source of their conflict. Problem is, they don’t know how.

Then there is the fact, every Nomad along the Front Range is hunting Wade and Shan. Their own Council has gone into full rebellion against Security. Even close friends seem to be distancing themselves. The team is fraying at the edges.

Not so easily deterred, they set out on separate paths, looking for answers about their heritage, the war, and if they can truly protect The Vista. It may earn them exile from their home. They know this. Failure is not an option.

I am getting creative with the punctuation in this snippet.  You’ve been warned!  You can check out other creative types, at the WeWriWa blog.  It’s a nice bunch of people with some amazing books.  Also, Snippet Sunday has a great choice of sneak peeks.

This is more of the conversation from last week.  Sometimes, all you have to talk about is the weather.  PS – that will change soon!

I need to be thinking about a real title, too.  This could be a series, time will tell.

  Skye & Taryn-

What was it like?”

Water fell out of the clouds. When you splash in a bath, and the water flies around, except it was cold, it stung my skin. It was . . . I can’t even describe it.”

How long did it last?”

About as long as we’ve been in here. For a while later, there were new plants across the plateau. It was green, it even smelled different.” She shook her head. “I wanted to follow the wind direction, back towards Freeport. Garrett getting dragged across the sand distracted me, and here I am.”

Short one this week, sorry.  You know there’s a promo for The Wildblood series now.  All three books are on sale for 99c each, until sometime next week when I change them.

First World Problems

My blog has been having technical difficulties for about 3 weeks now. WordPress hasn’t had a response, as I utilize the free stuff here. The good news is, the posts are still available. If the links happen to be working, you can click on the archives and find them, rather than scrolling down.

In the meantime, I’m editing. Woo! With a little luck, I’ll have a snippet next weekend, and maybe other news as well.

Wish me luck, of the good kind.

WeWriWa #8Sunday – New Release Time

91e18-wewriwa_button

Check out the Weekend Writing Warriors blog for many authors and their snippet awesomeness!

Let’s see what I have this week. It’s just more than a week until the release of my novella Backlash, which is a prequel to The Wildblood series. I’m sure I’ll be giving some copies away. For now, a snippet and some promo stuff. The snippet is a discussion about how ready Team Three is to have a Scout.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

“So are you taking your Scout out tomorrow?” Ballentyne, Mick in his off-duty time, peered down from the second floor loft, in civilian clothes, jeans and a tee-shirt.

“Is she ready to drive around by herself?” Wade asked.

“She’s been ready all summer.”

“We haven’t been ready,” Mac said, not joking.

“Give her the keys, tell her she’s on regular rotation with us,” Wade told Ballentyne.

“Are you sure?” Mac asked quietly, keeping the conversation private.

“I should’ve put her on the road the week she turned sixteen, but I’d have had her parents and you to deal with,” Wade commented.

Thunder-storm above Montana. Fields after harvest and road

Before Team Three became Team Three, there was The Blackout.

Vista Security is used to the feral bands of human wandering the landscape since a brief and devastating war wiped away civilization. Sixteen years later, they’ve adapted to dealing with the challenges facing their safe haven.

That is, until a new threat appears, one they never expected and one they have little defense against. Security throws in everything they can muster; it quickly takes a toll. Their advantage – an untested team of officers barely more than children themselves; officers with dark secrets and a hidden agenda.

In a free-for-all battle to preserve one of the last sanctuaries of man, Team Three discovers their secrets are their strength and that their future will take them far beyond what they’ve ever known.

Action, a bit of romance and a good splash of sci-fi set the scene for Backlash, the prequel novella of The Wildblood series.

Evolution of ‘The Vista’

When I say ‘it’s been a long time in the making’, I’m not kidding.  The original seed of this story was jotted down 17 years ago.  I was writing what I thought would be my first book.  When I’d hit a spot of writer’s block, I’d switch over to the idea I was messing with that I didn’t think would pan out.

Then my husband got sick.  I was trying to manage a household with 3 kids and him, all on a part-time job.  Writing was forgotten for a while.

Four years ago at Christmastime, I lost my dad.  It wasn’t unexpected, but it made me do a lot of thinking.  My kids are all adults, the hubby is doing as well as he can and I have a little free time.  I dusted off the spiral notebooks full of outlines & ideas.  ‘The Vista’ shouted out louder than the others, and the journey towards finishing a book began again.

The other book is still waiting, along with several more.  It has evolved into a two book story.  I don’t expect the next one, and the next one, and the next one to take quite so long.

So when I see a writer kick out 2 or 3 or 4 books a year, I am jealous.  I want to do that, even if it’s only once.  We shall see how that works for me.  Once ‘The Vista’ is out, I plan on running amok.  You have been warned!
