This week hasn’t been particularly productive, but I still have a post. Be sure to check out the WeWriWa blog. You won’t be disappointed with the snippets a great group of authors are sharing. Also #SnippetSunday
Blurb – Tau Scorpii
When Taryn rescues another human from a marauding band of Caeruleum, she is reunited with clansmen long believed dead. It puts her at odds with their new chieftan, as well as her own partner, a powerful privateer. They discover, they have a more imminent problem, and must unite to survive.
The weather is changing. They’ll have to fight other species for control as migrations begin, food becomes scarce, and border wars erupt across the territories. Humans are no longer at the top of the food chain.
Tau Scorpii A, a massive red giant star in a binary cluster with Tau Scorpii B, a yellow dwarf. The solar system is populated by more than thirty planets, at least one habitable. Called Sedna by the SolTerrans that live there, named for a planet in their ancestral system. The desert is a dangerous place for alien species – and on Sedna, they’re all alien species.

Taryn and Skye’s first private conversation. There will be more, but for now, they realize they are strangers to each other.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
“Travel to Seafront with us,” Skye said, without thinking about it.
“For what means?” Taryn was skeptical.
He hesitated.
“With the idea to take me west, and hide me away as if I was eight years old, still.” She leaned close, “I need to go home, this is about the weather.”
“It’s hot, it’s dry, and it’s dusty.” He didn’t mind that their shoulders brushed.
“I stood in the rain, Skye,” she whispered.
He blinked, knowing she wasn’t making a joke, and knowing at the same time, how improbable it sounded.
“Before you ask, I wasn’t drunk, I wasn’t dreaming it.”

Hopefully, things here in Real Life will be a bit more settled and I can get some words down. If not, next week will be sneak peek at the book on deck, Cascadia, or something from Bloodlines: Book 3 of The Wildblood. We shall see.
In the meantime, I have covers in process. Any comments about them are appreciated. Nothing is set, I’m just playing in GIMP.
And now, the weekly promo.
The Wildblood Series
Twenty years after civilization stopped, a tiny refuge, a place called The Vista, may be one of the last vestiges of humanity. Isolated, guarded, and hiding a dark secret, the people have survived World War Last, and they are content with that. Their children, however, are not. The search for others will send them out into a land they know nothing about, where the line between enemy and ally is blurred.
All are available in paperback and eBooks.
I gather from this that they’re on a desert planet. Nice way to say a lot about the climate.

Wow, that’s a tough call. I think if I had to pick, I’d go with the second one. I like the size of the planet on that one. Looks great!

It looks like she knows something he doesn’t. I wonder where she found the rain.

I wonder if she’ll change Taryn’s mind.

Another great snippet from this story. Where was she when she was in rain? Hoping that answer comes.
As far as cover designs, my eye gravitated towards the one on the right. 😉 Her eyes stand out more and the having only one planet balances it nicely. The planets on the left cause my eyes to go everywhere.

Interesting that rain seems like an impossibility where they are.

I like the concept of rain being a mythical or mystical occourance! Also I agree, I like cover on the right with the one planet. It makes it seem like we are travellers and we have arrived and our journey begins when we land.

Enjoying the story, very cool detail about the rain and I can’t wait to learn where she was when that happened. I was a bit confused by the question “For what means?” Just an odd phrasing to me – I’ve always heard it said “By what means?” as in what mode of travel but I gather here the meaning is “For what reason or purpose?” Just hung me up for a second! Great snippet.

Interesting exchange. It kind of sounds like they have their own dialect there–like the Belters on The Expanse.
I like the cover on the right. The eyes are beautiful. The only thing I might change on either is the angle of white fabric? It looks like maybe it’s a piece of a scarf flapping up, but it looks out of place to me.

Interesting exchange about the weather. (The whole conversation made me think they were speaking in coded words, though.)
Covers: I thought that the one on the left had a “darker” feel to it so it depends on what you’re going for.
