SFR Brigade December Showcase

December already!  I think I’ll do something fun & different this month.

I’ve been swearing for more than a year now, there’s romance in Book 2. There is, or there will be. Book 1 (The Vista: Book 1 of The Wildblood)had a subplot of said future romance. But characters are only human (these, in this series anyway), so I’ve decided to do a teaser post entitled ‘Who is Shan’s Secret Boyfriend?’. Snippets are from The Vista. Here we go!

“Taylor is certainly tight with you, with Team Three. Wasn’t it his brother you were training as a Scout?”

Shan nodded.

“You are just a talkative one today,” Hunter said. “Are you seeing him?”

“Chris? No. He’s barely sixteen.”

“Kyle. You spend a lot of time with him.”

“He joined Security right after I did.” She smiled to herself.

“So, are you seeing him?”

“He’s married.” She was pretty certain she didn’t want to delve into her family tree with him.

“That makes a difference to you?”

She nodded, a bit indignant. “Of course it does. Doesn’t it matter to you?”

“Yeah,” he confessed. “I’m just making conversation.” He was trying to keep her mind off other things. “What about ‘X’?”

“He’s not married,” she told him, absolutely meaning to sound suggestive.

Ah-ha!  Shannon being onery to Hunter.  This is an on-going thing between them, from page one.  The catch is, she is already in a serious relationship.  Also, her particular variety of human doesn’t view sex and relationships in a typical way.  Which leads to a lot of interesting possibilities.  Or not!

“I’m going to catch a couple hours sleep,” she stifled a yawn. “I have to be back at Station Two tomorrow at a reasonable hour.”

“What’s ‘reasonable’?” Taylor went ahead and asked.

“Damned if I know. Whenever Mac or Wade heads in that direction. They keep stealing my car.” She hopped down off the wall and meandered towards the station.

“So I should hide my keys?”

Shannon nodded. “You all better.”

“They have the doors off the rooms on the third floor. You should grab one downstairs before the rest of first shift gets them,” ‘X’ warned.

“I already have one,” she smiled. “One of the advantages of working the com room.”

“You still sleep naked?” ‘X’ asked for the benefit of the rookie, putting on his best innocent face. Hunter on third and Reid at shortstop both lost their attention on whoever was at bat.

“Except during Sweeps,” she didn’t miss a beat.

Mr. ‘X’, hinting at a relationship that’s ‘friends with benefits’, at least for Book 1.  All bets are off after that, because you know how characters can take off with a simple plot twist and run.

Yeah, those are just teasers. There are a lot of one-liners, too, but they’d not make any sense out of context. The Vista is less of a romance, with a lot of back story, character history and setting up conflicts to last several books. The relationships, the romance, is a vital part of the storyline. That becomes more evident in Renegades: Book 2 of The Wildblood.  It’s a WIP and due out in Feb., 2016.  Keep checking here for more snippets, a cover reveal and a giveaway!
